Jaipur's Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT) is a Public University which places emphasis on science, engineering and management. Formerly known as Malaviya Regional Engineering College (MREC) Jaipur it assumed its present name in 2002 and was recognized as an Institute of National Importance in 2007. Founded in 1963 with only two engineering branches, it now comprises of fourteen departments, a school of management and allied centres. MNIT was initially located at a temporary campus at Pilani and admitted 30 students each in Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. It then moved to the present campus to Jaipur in 1965. It is located at a distance of 13 kilometers from Jaipur International Airport and 5 kilometers from Jaipur central railway station.
