Namgyal Monastery which is better known as the Dalai Lama's Temple is located in Mcleod Ganj, Dharamshala, India and is the personal monastery of the 14th Dalai Lama. This monastery's key role is to assist with rituals involving the Dalai Lama of Tibet. The original monastery was founded in either 1564 or 1565 as Phende Lekshe Ling but following the Tibetan uprising of 1959, Namgyal Monastery relocated to Dharamshala, India, where it continues, active, to this day and has nearly 200 monks of all lineages. The Temple is situated in the Dalai Lama Temecula complex, a short 15 minute walk from the center of the town.
